It’s been a long and harsh winter, but it’s finally starting to feel a little like Spring, which can be both exciting and stressful.

After hiding under thick layers and braving frigid cold temperatures for months, your skin is surely ready for some much needed love, and that includes the skin on your legs! While you may have been slacking on winter leg care, now is the time to redeem yourself.

With your legs hidden under a pair of tights, you might be wondering “why bother to even care for them?” But the fact is, even for tights season your legs need to be taken care of! Smooth legs will allow you to put on and take off your tights more easily, and can help save your tights from unwanted snags. It’s true! Even rough skin can cause unwanted snags in your tights!

What’s more, with Spring around the corner, your legs will be ready to go bare when the time comes to make the switch from tights to sockettes and statement socks!

Here’s how to prep your legs for tights in 3 easy steps!

Exfoliate

Exfoliating is an important step to take to get smooth skin. As you may or may not know, your skin is constantly generating new skin cells and old ones are dying, which means you need to take care of the dead skin (by exfoliating) to allow room for new healthy cells.

You can exfoliate as often as everyday, though I opt for once a week. I’m obsessed with the Heavy Cream body scrub by Cake Beauty. It smells amazing and is made with pure shea butter and super-fine white sugar. Smooth it over your wet skin at the end of your shower and let it set for just 1 to 2 minutes before you rinse it off. Your legs will be feeling great in no time!

Moisturize

Now until Spring, you should be moisturizing your legs every day! You know that itchy feeling your legs have in the winter? That’s due to a lack of moisture! I always like to moisturize after I shower. From the same Cake Beauty line, I use the Heavy Cream body balm. It’s made with aloe vera, coconut oil, shea butter, and green tea extract to soothe, smooth, and hydrate dry skin. Products like this one sink into your skin quickly and will leave your skin moisturized.

Hair removal

Shaved legs is the ultimate finishing touch to exfoliated and moisturized legs. If that’s not your thing that’s cool, but I can’t stand the feeling of stubble especially when it’s rubbing against my tights all day. Whether you opt for shaving, waxing or any other form of hair removal, just make sure you have the right products on hand. The wrong razor, wax or shaving cream can do more harm than good!
