You might treat your activewear the same way as any other clothing you own, but in reality they differ and require special care, especially when it comes to how you wash them.
For your favourite leggings to look like new after every wash, you want to follow a few steps and tricks. After all, the last thing you want to do is ruin the activewear you adore and spent good money on.
Ready to avoid any washing mistakes?
Here are 4 tips to follow to wash your activewear the right way!
Use the right detergent
Be sure to use the right detergent to wash your clothes. An unsuitable product could damage the material of your leggings and reduce their lifespan. I use a special detergent formulated for activewear that eliminates odors while preserving the quality of the fabric. My favourite leggings are like new after each wash! Also remember to not add softener as it can clog the fibers and retain odors.
Turn them inside out
To avoid discoloration and to protect the patterns and colours found on your activewear, turn them inside out before putting them in the washing machine. This action will prevent the fabrics from deteriorating and will preserve the technical properties of your garment.
Wash in cold water
Washing your activewear with cold water will also help avoid damaging the material and prevent them from shrinking. Contrary to what many think, cold water means a temperature of 25 degrees or less, and not necessarily freezing cold water.
Dry your clothes in the open air instead of in the machine, as heat and friction can affect the type of fabric used for activewear. Drying them outdoors will also help preserve any logos and help prints stay intact.
